From 100 visitors a month to a fully booked cleaning business.

When Happy House Cleaning came to me, their business was struggling. They were based in London, one of the most competitive markets in the UK for cleaning services, and their website was attracting barely 100 visitors a month. They knew they needed help, but had no idea where to start. That’s where I came in.

The starting point: a website audit

Before touching anything, I ran a full audit of their site to understand exactly what was holding them back. A few things stood out immediately:

  • Minimal traffic. With only around 100 monthly visitors, the site wasn’t gaining any real traction in search.
  • A dated, unresponsive site. Slow load times and a design that didn’t work well on mobile were quietly costing them visitors before they even had a chance to convert.
  • No local SEO presence. No optimised Google Business Profile, no local directory listings, a huge missed opportunity for a business that lives or dies on local searches.
  • Content that missed the mark. Nothing on the site matched what potential customers were actually searching for.
  • Technical issues under the hood. A number of backend problems were quietly dragging down both speed and user experience.

Individually, none of these were unusual. Together, they explained exactly why the business was invisible online, and pointed to a clear plan for turning that around.

Building the local SEO strategy

Happy House Cleaning’s core goal was simple: rank higher for the local, cleaning-related searches their customers were actually typing into Google. I built a strategy around four pillars.

On-page optimisation

I rewrote page titles, meta descriptions, and headers around the keywords their real customers were searching for, tightened up page speed, and made sure the technical basics, alt tags, schema markup, were properly in place.

Google Business Profile

I set up and fully optimised their Google Business Profile, completing every field, adding photos, and optimising for location-based search terms, so the business could actually be found by nearby customers.

Local link building

To build authority, I created profiles on more than 50 relevant local business directories, and secured guest posts and links from London-based blogs and referral sites to lift local visibility.

Review generation

Reviews are one of the strongest trust signals for a local business, so I ran a campaign to bring in more 5-star reviews, and integrated them into the site’s schema markup for better visibility in search results.

A website that could actually convert

The site itself needed a fresh start. I moved it to a fully mobile-responsive theme, optimised images and code for faster load times, simplified the navigation so visitors could find what they needed, and added trust-building elements like testimonials and certifications. The result: a site that went from clunky and slow to a genuinely user-friendly hub built to convert traffic into leads.

A content strategy built on real search demand

With the foundations in place, I turned to content. Rather than writing at random, I built topic clusters around the services Happy House Cleaning actually offered, house cleaning, office and commercial cleaning, deep cleaning and sanitisation, upholstery and carpet cleaning, and end-of-lease cleaning, then targeted long-tail keywords within each cluster, like “carpet cleaning companies near me” and “what is included in an end of tenancy deep clean.” This let the site rank for a far wider spread of real search queries than a handful of broad keywords ever could.

Within 12 months, Happy House Cleaning’s organic traffic went from 100 visitors a month to over 52,000, a 540x increase.

The results

  • 540x traffic increase. Monthly visitors jumped from around 100 to more than 52,000.
  • First-page rankings for hundreds of local cleaning-related search terms.
  • 600% more leads. Phone calls and contact form submissions both increased dramatically.

Final thoughts

Working with Happy House Cleaning was a genuinely rewarding project, not just for the results, but for the partnership we built along the way. Their business is thriving today, and the strategy behind it, foundations first, then content, then authority, is the same one I bring to every local SEO client.
